Everyone has heard about cataracts and cataract surgery but how will it affect you when the time comes. If you live long enough, you will eventually develop a cataract. As you age that cataract will gradually worsen and affect your vision. Here are some FAQs regarding cataracts and cataract surgery:
Q:Â How will I know when it is time for cataract surgery?
A:  In the majority of cases cataracts gradually worsen over time. Some of the first symptoms most patients notice are glare from headlights driving at night, difficulty reading the print on the TV and it becomes difficult to see street signs at an adequate distance for safety. You will know when cataracts begin to affect your lifestyle, then it is time.
Q:Â What are the restrictions after cataract surgery?
A: Dr Long performs advanced cataract surgery techniques and there are very few restrictions post-op. Patients can do most activities such as walk, drive, watch TV, read, and do light housework the next day. No heavy lifting for one week.
Q:Â What does surgery day look like?
A: Dr Long performs cataract surgery locally in Sherman. Patients are at the surgery center approximately 2 hours, start to finish. The surgery itself is 10-15 minutes. You will be discharged with eyedrops and a patch to wear when sleeping. We will see you back for post-op either the same day of surgery or the next.
